Art Center Sarasota

Sarasota has been called an art mecca for many reasons.  One of these reasons is due to a very special place built in 1926.  The Art Center Sarasota had its beginnings as a place to bring together young people and artists with the intention of bringing visual arts to life.  After the war in the 1940’s, artists flocked to Sarasota, many coming from New York and wanting to teach at the Art Center Sarasota.  Free, open to the public, and accessible to everyone, this place still serves as a meeting place and learning institution 90 years later.  Instructors come from all over the world to teach specialized workshops.  The center houses four galleries, one of which is available to the public for displaying their artwork ( up to three pieces and for a fee).  There is a “jury” who decides on the pieces that will be included in the show.  The three other galleries are dedicated to curated shows.   Classes, workshops, camps, and exhibitions all make the Art Center Sarasota an intrinsic part of Sarasota’s art mecca scene.

“Art Center Sarasota’s mission is to provide Sarasota with opportunities for creative expression and art appreciation through art education, exhibitions and cultural programs.”
